Day Two

Our second day in Italy was very low key. This morning we met with the program facilitator to get the itinerary for our first week. In the afternoon we visited a local Rotarians home and learned about the history of Alessandria (the city we are in staying in this week).

But my favorite part of the day was the HAT MEUSEM!! Borsalino was started in 1857 and was very famous in the late 1920‘s and 30‘s. The hats are still in production today and have been worn in movies such as casablanca and were known has a favorite of Cary Grant

.

It was like a Libary for hats... only way cooler!

I wanted so badly to try on a hat and look like these chic ladies, but no touchie!

Then we ended the evening in true Italian style, a late dinner, starts between 8 and 9 pm and last 2-3 hours. We tried some traditional Italian dishes, I was not able to partake in much of the first course (Meats) because it included both raw pork and beef and that is not so hot for babies, but I did enjoy some anchovies!  Our second corse was a traditional pasta, best described as a meat ravioli , but with a meat reduction sauce or wine sauce.  The meal was served family style and the whole table eats the same thing.
